ADB Provides K3 Million for Relief Activities

The Government signed a K3million grant agreement with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) today, to help fund priority relief and restoration activities of the earthquake affected provinces.

The agreement was signed by ADB PNG Country Director, David Hill and Deputy Prime Minister, Charles Abel. Mr Abel on behalf of the Government commended ADB for their support and said the funds will be put directly to the continuing relief efforts.

The Deputy PM said substantial amounts of funding will be put to cover rehabilitation costs for water, roads, electricity, schools, health centres and other important areas.

The grant is part of ADB’s Asia Pacific Disaster Response Fund which Country Director David Hill said is a special fund designed to provide increment grant resources to ADB developing member countries.
