Binatangs Stung in First Match

By Skola Sengi – EM TV Sports, Port Moresby

The PNG Binatangs suffered their first loss in the Queensland State AFL Championships yesterday, to the North Queensland North Region Development Team 73-20 in Brisbane, Australia.

The Binatangs managed to secure three goals and two behinds, however, that wasn’t enough against a surging North Queensland side.

Lae-based players Aldan Schmidt, Ismael Kaimur and Lawrance Pagol all scored for the Binatangs, but a lack of possession ultimately cost the PNG boys from registering more points on the board.

With the majority of the team being new faces, the squad has taken the first game as a stepping stone and will look to bounce back in their remaining matches.

In 2014, the Binatangs ended their campaign in fifth spot; however, they are aiming for a top three finish this time around.

This is the first time for many within the young AFL side to travel overseas and take part in an international tournament. AFL PNG encourages the country to get behind the team and support them in their campaign.
