By Delly Waigeno – EM TV News, Port Moresby

The Catholic Professionals Society of PNG has voiced its concerns about the present national events being highlighted in the media.

They have called on public office holders to step aside to allow due process and the rule of law to take its course without any influence.

President of the Catholic Professionals Society, Paul Harricknen, said events in recently have called into question the effectiveness of the rule of law and the due process in the criminal justice system.

The Catholic Professionals Society of PNG is a church group made up of lawyers and other professionals. A mandate of theirs is to comment on economic and political issues that affect the country.

In a media conference today, the society stressed that the country’s democracy has become the victim in the recent spate of abuse of the “Constitution”, the “rule of law” and “due process.”

Harricknen said it should be the moral duty of persons holding public office to step aside until they are cleared by the due process of law.
