National Court Backs Tato as EHP Provincial Administrator

by Delly Waigeno – EM TV News, Port Moresby

The Waigani National Court has granted a restraining order in favour of Solomon Tato as the Eastern Highlands Provincial Administrator.

The order restrains EHP Governor, Julie Soso, the PEC and Public Service Minister, Sir Puka Temu, from revoking Tato’s appointment.

Eastern Highlands Provincial Administrator, Solomon Tato was at the EMTV office this afternoon to announce the court’s decision.

Mr Tato decided to take the matter to court after an acting provincial administrator was appointed just last week.

Lawyer, Mr Lau, explained that there was no vacancy in the provincial administrator’s office as Mr Tato’s position was never revoked, nor was there a court order that removed him from office.

Among the court orders, any actions taken so far by the defendents to revoke the appointment of the plaintiff and to appoint an acting provincial adminsitrator for EHP is stayed, pending hearing of the matter.

Mr Tato was appointed provincial administrator by the National Executive Council on November 26th 2014, and he maintains he still is provincial administrator.

The court will return on the 12th of August, 2015.
