Mendi Police Face Logistical Challenges in Dealing with Court Matters

By Lucy Kopana, EMTV News, Lae

Mendi Police are facing logistical challenges in dealing with remandees and fresh court matters, following the burning down of the courthouse on the 15th of June.

In a statement released today (August 8), Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Crimes, Hodges Ette, said it was causing administrative and logistical strains to move detainees to courthouses in Ialibu, Nipa and Mt. Hagen for hearings.

Acting ACP Ette said, despite these challenges, officers continue to make arrests for both minor and serious offences, however, detaining them is a problem because of limited cell blocks.

With the current situation, Mr Ette said police will start attending to serious matters only.
