By Stanley Ove Jr – EMTV NEWS Port Moresby

Dr Nick Dala has been appointed the new Director of the National Aids Council Secretariat (NACS).

In a media conference yesterday, the new director announced some of his plans for the council including a new strategy that will focus more on STI prevention.

Dr Dala said the new strategy will be an effective way in combating HIV.

“To effectively combat HIV, STI prevention must be given similar attention like HIV/AIDS,” Dr Dala said.

Supporting Dr Dala, Health and HIV/AIDS Minister Sir Puka Temu said he will work closely with the Director to develop the secretariat.

Minister Temu said the roles of the NACS will be distributed to every province through their provincial health authorities which Sir Puka believes is the way forward in addressing issues surrounding the deadly disease.
