Digicel Cup Preparation

Teams taking part in the Digicel Cup are in full game preparing mode, and raring to go.

Bingtangor Goroka Lahanis have already named their players, while the Gulf Isapeas are welcoming sponsors on board.

Reigning Champions, Port Moresby Vipers, have returned from their Cairns tour, and ready to defend their title.

The much anticipated semi-professional rugby league competition, Digicel Cup, is set to kick off come April 13.

Ten provincial teams will be hitting the field, with the same motivation; to be premiers by the end of the season.

Despite losing some of their top guns to the SP PNG Hunters, the teams will now look outside the box to scout raw talent.

For the Gulf Isapeas, it’s another story as they prepare to avoid the wooden spoon tag this year, and silence their critics.

Twenty eight players have been selected, including rising stars scouted from the Kerema Rugby League in the likes of Abel Putu, Morgan Mora and Sly Tom.

But it wasn’t enough to mix the flavor as the Team management looks out to the Pacific Islands.

Petroleum Resource Kutubu is confident in the team by doubling the portion on their plate, hoping for a better outcome.

The team is K500, 000 richer as they go out to sharpen their player’s skills, as well as the team management.

Meanwhile, the Lahanis are blowing their horn, and assembling a 34-man

Train-on Squad.

The team plans to exact revenge come this season against reigning champions; Port Moresby Vipers.

Both teams made it into the final playoffs last year, but the Vipers’ venom sank to the bone giving them a clear run home with the cup.

Lahanis Bernard Tatsim Jr will continue to wear his favorite jumper, despite not making it into the SP PNG Hunters team.

Lahanis’ spark plug Leo Fred will lock horns with elder brother and 2013 Lae Snax Tiger’s skipper, Sydney Fred.

And for the Vipers, after their recent Cairns tour, they will come out from their locker room fired up for the season.

This season will see some new faces on the field, fulfilling the PNGNRL and PNGRFL’s ambitions and plans.
