Drunk driver of govt vehicle rams young man into fence at Gerehu

A young man is seriously injured, and now at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Port Moresby General Hospital after a government-owned vehicle veered of the road and rammed him into a fence of a residential property in the Gerehu suburb.

It is alleged that the driver of the vehicle was highly intoxicated, under the influence of alcohol and has since escaped.

A formal report has been lodged and the vehicle is now in police custody, at the Gerehu Police Station.

The incident left residents in shock, causing considerable damage to private properties.

Gerehu police are now searching for the driver of the government-vehicle involved in the accident.

Reports have also been received of a policeman being shot at Kwikila, in the Rigo district of Central province. It is alleged that the law-enforcement officer was shot by civilians.

The policeman is now at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Port Moresby General Hospital.
