Lahanis Commit to Advocate on Violence

by Marie Kauna – EMTV Online, Port Moresby

Violence in all its different forms is not known to many sportsmen and women. This was admitted by Goroka Lahanis Trainer, Ivan Mosika, at a Violence Awareness Session conducted by the KAFE Women’s Association.

The team with their officials and Under-12 rugby players were given the opportunity, and participated in the awareness session.

For many, this was something new and they were excited. Each participant was given brochures, pamphlets, and posters containing information on violence.

They also took part in the discussion session to collect feedback on whether they learnt enough information to spread to their families, friends and other people they know.

Trainer Mosika said now that the team has taken part in the session, they have committed to fighting violence in their families, communities, provinces and the nation as a whole.

They will be part of the 20 days activism that will eventuate on the 20th November to the 10th December.

They acknowledged the association for the initiative in educating and spreading the word. This is the second session conducted in the Eastern Highlands Province and was supported by Deloitte and Oxfam.
