Goroka Teachers College not Recognised

By Adelaide Kari – EMTV News, Port Moresby

A teachers College in Goroka has been set up and has been running for 2 years but is not recognised by the Department of Higher Education, Research and Science. The Goroka Teachers College is now working with the Eastern Highlands Provincial Government to have the college meet all of the Departments requirements.

Eastern Highlands Provincial Governor, Peter Numu, says Goroka is already a good environment for colleges and universities and he will ensure that the Teachers College meet all the requirements needed.

The Goroka Teachers College recently invited the Governor to see the college; there, the Governor gave the provincial executive decision for the College. The first Batch of student from the teachers college is expected to graduate this year.

Governor Numu said he will take the issue of the school, of not being registered, to the Minister of Higher Education to ensure the school meets all the requirements.

The Governor also committed K3 million to sealing roads from the junction of the National Highway in Goroka to where the college is located at Rodmans.
