Grade 12 Boy Shot Dead in Wabag

A Grade 12 student of Kopen Secondary in Wabag was shot dead after the looting of a shop in Wabag town on Monday.

Families of the deceased, Late Yambi Isaiah, are blaming the police and the defence force for shooting their son.

Enga Provincial Police Commander, George Kakas, said Police will respond after receiving the results from a scheduled post mortem of the deceased.

On Tuesday, tribesmen of the deceased from Surinki in the Laiagap-Porgera electorate went to Wabag Police station and demanded answers from the Police why their son was shot dead.

However, PPC Kakas told the Surinki people that the security forces were not in Wabag when the incident happened.

He urged them to remain calm until they receive the post mortem result and identify which bullet was used, whether from the security forces or civilians.

On Monday at around 12pm, Police reports stated that there was a looting by opportunists at a shop in Wabag town.

Police could not identify who fired the shots, because, at that same time, all the security forces were at Amala and Teremanda maintaining peace when the incident happened.

The body of Late Yambi is at the Wabag hospital morgue, awaiting a post mortem.

Yambi and his big sister were at Kopen secondary before the shooting, where Yambi received his transfer letter to find a different school, due to the fight in Wabag.
