Ground Breaking Event For New Picnic Area

Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Tobias Kulang, CEO for PNG Tourism Promotion Authority, Jerry Agus and General Manager, Port Moresby Nature Park, Michelle McGeorge have participated in a ground breaking ceremony for the park’s latest project, the Main Village recreational area.

The new Main Village will be an upgrade of the existing main picnic area, and will be themed in a traditional village setting and will include a main stage area, six large huts, barbecues and a new public toilet block.

The area will not only be able to cater for functions and barbecuesbqs, but also expos and other events. The area will be able to accommodate up to 2,500 people. McGeorge during her speech thanked architects Peddle Thorp for their sponsorship support in the designing of the area.

During the ground breaking ceremony, Kulang said “It is wonderful to see the developments taking place at the Nature Park not only for tourists but for the community.

“Port Moresby is the gateway into PNG and so it is great to see products such as the Nature Park in existence,” Kulang added.

Both Kulang and Agus were provided a tour and inspection of Port Moresby Nature Park during the event.

Port Moresby Nature Park was recently awarded a 2016 Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor. The park is open daily from 8am.

Ground works are expected to commence in the next five weeks for completion in October.
