Hela LNG Landowners disappointed with Government over payment and benefits

Leaders in the PNG LNG project in Hela are disappointed with the National Government’s slow approach in addressing outstanding LNG issues.

Leaders of Petroleum Development License (PDL) areas 1, 7, 8 including Hides, Juha and Angore, said landowners signed the agreement in Kokopo, but the Government has failed on its part.

They said the authorities must pay attention to the cry of the resource owners. For many it is not the first time to grab Government’s attention to fulfill the benefits captured in the UBSA and LBBSA agreement.

The resource owners said past promises and interventions by the government have all been watered down, including the K35 million promised in August 2016.

Outstanding payments include Business Development Grants, Tax Credits Scheme Impact Projects, and Infrastructure Development Grants among others. Again they have brushed aside the excuses of politics but said local MPs like James Marape, Patrick Thomas and Manase Makiba and Governor Philip Undialu to be responsible, and help the people.

The resource owners want the Government to respond in the next 10 days.
