Highlands Highway Opened after negotiations

Highlands Regional Mobile Commander, Joe Maragil, Highlands Legal Officer, Chief Inspector John Sagom, OIC Fraud, Gabriel Haus and MS 6, 7 and National Security Unit went to Jiwaka at Menjip on Saturday (09/09/17) where the roadblock is and removed the road block.

Families of Late Glen Jimmy Golang finally opened the highway but said their demand still needs to be addressed by the State immediately.

The families of late Glenn from Jiwaka and Alex Kopa from Simbu demanded compensation payment of K28 Million from the state, Enga Provincial Government, Kandep MP, Alfred Manase, former Kandep MP, Don Polye, Electoral Commission and the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary.

K14 million was demanded to be paid to each of the families of the fallen cops.

However, in a recent media statement by Police Commissioner, Gari Baki, he explained to the families of the fallen Cops that the Constabulary does not pay compensation for members killed in the line of duty.

Baki has called on the relatives to allow the Constabulary to repatriate the bodies for burial.

Meanwhile, hundreds of highway trucks immobilised in Goroka, Simbu and Jiwaka were also freed to travel on the Highway.
