Hoskins Village Initiates Housing Scheme

A village in the Hoskins Local Level Government in West New Britain has established a housing scheme.

Despite not receiving support from any Government agency, elders of Vovosi Village believe the scheme will help current living conditions and improve better housing for the community.

10 families have benefited from the project.

It is a first of its kind community initiative driven by elders of Vovosi Village in the Hoskins area of Talasea District.

They said roads, electricity and other vital services can come later but their priority is better housing for every family in their community.

This week would be the 3rd week for the community project.

Four to five logs are ripped everyday with nearly 100 to 250 timbers produced everyday.

The project has received no funding or help from any organisation, but community leaders want an open dialogue with Members of Parliament to assist and improve the scale of operation.

With the limited resources, those involved are confident local resources will be put to good use for the benefit of the Community.
