Iconic Paintings Discarded

by Adelaide Kari – EM TV News, Port Moresby

Traditional paintings depicting faces of art that were once the iconic welcome signs at the arrivals of the International airport, have been found by artists at the Constitutional Park used as stall walls for the Lewa Sogeri women’s stall during the women in Business expo.

Jeffery Feeger, a PNG artist, who is internationally recognised, was one of the artists that found the iconic paintings, is in shock that the paintings are now used as stall walls.

Francis Mamatu, who initially found the paintings spoke with EM TV news via mobile phone and said that the paintings were moved due to the arrivals being demolished and upgraded by the Construction company.

Mr Mamatu then recovered the paintings due to them being left out as rubbish to be used at the lewa Sogeri stall.

Feeger said that the paintings will be recovered in exchange for plywood for the ladies to use for the rest of the business expo.
