Integrated Financial Management System to Roll Out

By Delly Bagu – EM TV, Port Moresby

The government’s Integrated Financial Management System (IFMS) will be rolled out to all levels of government over the next two years.

Acting secretary for finance, Dr Ken Ngangan, announced this at the system’s launch today.

The IFMS replaces the old Papua New Guinea Government Accounting System (PGAS) and is expected to improve the way public finance is managed in government departments.

The launch of the IFMS was witnessed by officers of government departments in Port Moresby this morning.

Dr Ngangan said a lot of time and resources were spent to make the system work. He said the old accounting system, PGAS, is a solid system but has limitations.

Andres Rehbein from the IFMS System took participants through the agency expectations and roll out plan. Three departments; the Department of Justice and Attorney General, PM and NEC, and DPM, are already using IFMS. There are plans to roll out the system to 30 departments this year and eventually have it operating in provinces and districts as well.

Five-hundred thousand kina was also presented to the connectivity provider for their assistance in rolling out the system right down to the districts.
