Kikori Receives Earthquake Disaster Relief Supplies

Minister for Community Development, Youth and Religion and  Member for Kikori, Soroi Eoe received the Earthquake Disaster Relief Supplies at the Kikori station on Monday, April 9.

MP Eoe was accompanied by former Governor of Gulf Province Ridler Kimave and Kikori LLG President Wilson Baidu to receive the earthquake disaster relief supplies off MV Milne Bay Atoll.

Minister Eoe, upon receiving the relief supplies, thanked the government for providing approximately K1 million towards purchasing and transporting of this emergency supplies to the disaster affected areas. He also thanked the current Governor for Gulf Province, Chris Haiveta and his team for assisting at the provincial level. The Kikori MP apologized to the people on the late delivery of the relief supplies as he waited for the funds to be made available and also the mechanical issues faced by the MV Milne Bay Atoll.

“But the second shipment would focus on the Turama  area in the West Kikori LLG after assessment is done by the disaster coordination team to ascertain the extent of the damage,” Minister Eoe continued.

Meanwhile, Mr Kimave thanked Mr Eoe for being on the ground to see the disbursement of these emergency supplies by the Kikori Disaster Coordination team. He said “all leaders must be in unity when it comes to this kind of situations, and this must not only happen when natural disasters happen but also work together beyond this to bring basic services to the people of Kikori”.

Mr Kimave applauded Soroi Eoe for taking the initiative to unite all leaders for this purpose.
