Late Delivery of Road Machinery for Sepik Coastal Highway Questioned

By Stanley Ove Jnr – EMTV News, Port Moresby

West Sepik Governor, Tony Wouwou, has questioned Works Minister, Michael Nali on the delivery of road machinery for West Sepik Province. The Governor said he was promised six machines last year but has not received any to date.

“You made the commitment on the floor of parliament, and we haven’t received the machines yet,” Governor Wouwou said.

Minister Nali in response said the delay in the delivery of these machines was the earthquake disaster earlier this year.

“The machines were diverted to the highlands to help with the disaster relief efforts,” Minister Nali said.

The earth moving and road construction machines were donated by the Japanese Government in October last year. These machines were set to be sent to West Sepik province to provide road access for commuters between Wewak and Vanimo, given the bad condition of the Sepik Coastal Highway.

“Once restoration programs are done, I will see to it that these machines are sent to West Sepik,” Minister Nali told Governor Wouwou.

Other road machines and equipment will be sent to East New Britain and Northern Provinces.
