Locals Frustrated Over Closure of Popondetta Post Office

There is growing frustration amongthe people in Nothern Province, regardingthe closure ofthe Post Office.

The post office was closed followingthe suspension ofthe Retail Manager.

 

This has affectedthe population, who depend ontheir services.

 

Talpa Aiwa isthe Retail Manager atthe Popondetta PosPNG Office.

 

He was suspended bythe PosPNG Management following a drunken brawl with youths inthe province.

 

This decision resulted inthe closure ofthe Post Office.

 

The post office serves an estimated 200 customers a day, most ofthem fromthe rural areas.

 

Many ofthem are unbanked and depend entirely onthe post office to receive money fromtheir families outside ofthe province.

 

They are frustrated that this has to happen duringthe festive period and are demanding answers fromthe PosPNG Management.

 

Mr. Aiwa says, he has contactedthe management atthe head office in Port Moresby, but has not received a favorable response.

 

Alsothere are only two workers servingthe entire population and Mr. Talpa wantsthe management to fast trackthe recruitment process of new employers.
