Micah: State of Emergency to be Extended

Minister for Public Enterprise and State Investment, Ben Micah, says the PNG Power state of emergency is far from reaching its ultimate goal.

However, he says the state-owned enterprise (SOE) is receiving positive outcomes despite criticism of on-going power outage in the country.

Minister Micah expressed this in a recent visit to Madang in his SOE outreach mission.

He told business houses and Madang’s PNG Power staff that the SOE attempted to settle internal and external problems surrounding the supply of electricity in the country.

Micah said that decentralising power management in centres is a better start as a regulator and in support of the company’s operations.

Meanwhile, he announced that the state of emergency has been extended to the 22nd of February, with the possibility of another month’s extension.

“I will then take the report up to cabinet and cabinet will elaborate on the outcome of PPL’s next step,” he said.

East Sepik will be the next province to be visited by the minister.
