NEC Endorses National Disability Policy 2015-2025

by Jack Lapauve Jr – EM TV, Port Moresby

Minister for Religion, Youth and Community Development, Delilah Gore, yesterday announced that the National Executive Council has also endorsed the National Disability Policy 2015-2025.

This will see community development agencies and the Constitution Law Reform Commission review all existing policies particularly in Building Act of 1974 and Building Regulations 1994 and other public utility instruments.

Gore says, this policy will allow people living disability to have equal access to public amenities like any other ordinary people. She says, it’s about People Living With Disabilities (PLWD) who are recognised and given equal rights.

The policy also gives people with disabilities equal rights and access to formal education.

This sees a directive to the National Department of Education to review the Special Education Program for different classes of disabilities in line with relevant articles of the UN Convention on the Rights of Person with Disabilities which PNG has rectified in 2013.

Minister Gore will table the policy in the next parliament sitting.
