National Statistical Office Launches Calendar

By Eric Haurupma – EM TV News, Port Moresby

The National Statistical Office has launched a calendar containing a detailed activity plan for the year.

This calendar will help the NSO monitor its planned activities by updating the organisation’s data.

This calendar is part of NSOs corporate plan that coincides well with the National Identification Project, and Stars policy, as a way forward to achieve sustainable development goals.

National Statistician, Roko Koloma, said it is set to achieve strategies like the NSO corporate plan 2015 to 2019, NSO Reform Road Map and PNG Strategy for Sustainably Development.

“This provides a pathway for NSO and Planning Department to work closely with stakeholders, government organisations and private institutions to deliver vital government services,” he said.

According to Minister Abel, this calendar is a useful tool to monitor the performance and delivery rate of organisations especially in producing timely and relevant official statistics.

He said existing government policies like the National Identification, and the Stars policies can achieve the country’s Medium Term Development Goals.

Meanwhile, the NSO will be implementing a major project roll-out in 2016 like the release of 2013 gross domestic products, demographic and health survey, the review of Statistical Act 1981, organisational structure and basic statistical training.
