NEC to decide on Contract Award For the Construction of New Court House

By Eric Haurupma – EMTV News, Port Moresby

The awarding of the contract for the construction of the new National Court House Complex will be made by the National Government.

In a letter received by EMTV News today, from the Attorney General’s office, Ano Pala stated that the decision for the awarding of the contract will be made by the National Executive Council.

Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia was also informed of that, which he responded in acknowledgment.

On Tuesday, the Opposition Leader, Don Polye, has questioned the legality of the process alleging a contract was awarded to the preferred contractor called L&A construction at a project cost of K490 million.

He alleged that the Attorney General has perverted the procurement process in awarding the contract to a preferred contractor without recommendations from the Central Supply and Tenders Board.

The Attorney General responded that L&A construction, as contractor, was the confirmed bidder after satisfying all the requirements by the Central Supply and Tenders Board to carry out this project.

However, the NEC has the final approval on the awarding of the contract.
