Netball Grandfinal Ends In A Punching Match

The Netball Grand Final game between team Gorobe and Vanagi ended with a punching match between supporters of the losing team and games officials.

The fight resulted after the umpire refereeing the game, gave the game away to the trailing team as a penalty, against the leading team for using abusive language during the game.

The teams were playing in the Port Moresby South off Season Competition.

It was fight to the finish, and Vanagi supporters did not want to walk out as supporters of the losing team. The fight lasted for at least twenty minutes before the police were called in to calm the situation.

Before the fight, team Vanagi was leading with 16 points to 13. According to the coordinator, the game was aimed at teaching the players the international rules of netball.

She said most of the players were new to the game, and the idea was to familiarize them with the rules so they can compete for spots in the NCD Netball Competitions.

However, not a lot of awareness was conducted on the international rules and many players are still unaware of the required rules.
