New Zealand Trio Flattered

Before arriving in Papua New Guinea, New Zealand trio, Tayla Christensen, Elizabeth Anton and Meihayla Moore did not expect fans in PNG, as they were not going to be playing on home soil.

Surprisingly, upon arrival at the Jackson International Airport last week, they walked out of the terminal to a thrilling crowd of supporters.

The three, who previously represented NZ in the FIFA U17 World Cup, Costa Rica said, they find PNG very welcoming and the love of football is evident, as even small children were present at the airport during their arrival.

A bubbly and outspoken Christensen, told EMTV Sports, her interest in football started at a fairly young age of ten, and by the time she was 15, she represented New Zealand with the Silver Ferns at the U17 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica.

Alongside her is 20 year old Captain and Forward, Meihayla Moore who juggles University Studies and Football.

Like Christensen, she was part of the team that went to Costa Rica.

Moore said, between studies and football, it can get challenging but perseverance keeps her going.

Another dynamic presence in the NZ Team is Elizabeth Anton.

A 17 year old Centre Back, who has just finish high school and making this World Cup her second appearance as well on the World Stage.

She will be attending University next year, but for now, its Football, said a shy but well-spoken Anton.

In recognition of the love and interest many youngsters in Papua New Guinea have of Football, the trio encouraged youngsters in PNG that if they put their mind to something, either representing the country in football or any other sport, the key is to be determined and give their best short, while having fun at the same time.
