Kokonas Industri Koporesen: New Chairman Appointed
The coconut industry has to be translated into a viable and self-sustaining commercial entity, said Executive Director of Asia Pacific Coconut Community, Uron Salum.
He said this when being formally appointed as Chairman of the Kokonas Industri Koporesen and the Cocoa Coconut Institute. Mr Salum said a new leaf had to be turned to boost the industry.
The ceremony was held at the KIK head office in Port Moresby on Friday.
Witnessed by board members, Mr Uron took his oath. He expressed his gratitude to Minister for Agriculture and Livestock, Tommy Tomscoll, for his appointment.
Mr Salums’s appointment also coincided with the appointment of fellow Director, Kili Tambua. Currently the Bank Of South Pacific’s Deputy General Manager for Retail Banking, Mr Tambua, said new approaches will be taken to boost and support the sector.
The KIK regulates the coconut industry and also provides an enabling business environment in production, trading, processing, and exporting in PNG.
Likewise, the CCI is the major research and development organization that deals with cocoa and coconut agronomy through to processing and quality control.
