No More Cash Handouts for Southern Highlands Province

By Stanley Ove Jr – EM TV News, Port Moresby

Southern Highlands Governor, William Powi, said the traditional culture of cash handouts will be changed to a culture of development handouts.

Governor Powi said this marks the start of new era for Southern Highlands province, as delivering services is his administration’s main objective.

Powi said under his leadership we will spend money on projects than dishing out cash, a practice that existed in the province for many years.

He said although the need for money is huge among the people, he wants them to move away from that trend in order for them to receive services.

Governor Powi made this remarks during the opening of the new Ungubi-Haralenja road that has been left without any upgrade for 40 years.

The road project in Southern Highlands is one of many development projects that are happening in the province.
