Oceania Sports Education Program Training to Boost Capacity

The Oceania Sports Education Program (OSEP) is currently carried out in eight countries in the region, and Papua New Guinea is one.

The program has been running in PNG since 2009 and for the first time this year OSEP has facilitated a three-day joint training program with the PNG Sports Foundation, PNG Olympic Committee and various national sporting federations.

OSEP’s regional aim is to build the capacity of Pacific islanders in sports.

Regional Coordinator, Sainimili Talatoka, says from the program, PNG currently has 12 sports master educators and they should be able to deliver courses and competitions effectively throughout PNG.

Talatoka added that since OSEP’s inception in 2009, capacity in sports has been boosted and there are more plans in place to create awareness at a community-based level.

Meanwhile, the three-day OSEP program ended today with participants in the Level One Sports in Community (SIC) course doing exercise drills as part of the training.
