Operations of National Housing Corporation in Wewak Questioned

By Meriba Tulo – EMTV News, Port Moresby

The operations of the National Housing Corporation in East Sepik Province have been questioned, with accusations that the property on which it is housed was sold.

Ambunti Drekikir MP, Johnson Wapunai questioned the National Housing Minister on whether he was aware of the situation surrounding the purported sale of the property.

As a result, operations of the NHC in East Sepik Province have ground to a halt.

During Question Time today, Ambunti Drekikir MP, Johnson Wapunai asked Housing Minister John Kaupa on the sale of the property which houses the Provincial National Housing Office.

According to Mr Wapunai, the sale of the property had been shrouded in mystery, with different parties claiming ownership of this particular property.

This had in turn affected the operations of the NHC in East Sepik Province

In response, Housing Minister John Kaupa confirmed the sale of the property – however, the rightful owners were in dispute as separate transactions had been made.

Minister Kaupa assured parliament that an investigation was being conducted, with those found in the wrong to be prosecuted.
