The third venue for the 2015 Pacific Games to be officially opened was the Taurama Aquatic Centre.

The venue was opened this morning by Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, along with minister for sports and Governor for NCD, Powes Pakop.

“In our nation, some of our people are complaining. But PM and the cabinet have done well to keep steadfast. Because in the last 40 years, we have not seen this kind of investment in our Capital city,” said Governor Parkop, when giving his speech.

With world class venues such as the Taurama Aquatic Centre, PNG will be able to cater for, and host international tournaments.

“We should be very proud that we have World Class facilities that now will attract World Class events to our shores into the future, whether its sporting competitions, exhibitions and conferences. We have now so many beautiful internationally accredited facilities that we will now be the centre of attention in the Pacific,” said Justin Tkatchenko proudly when giving his address at the Opening.

PM O’Neill said, we have come a long to be in the position we are now, ready to host the 2015 Pacific Games.

“Our government inherited the commitments of the past government to host the Pacific Games, and we had to honour these commitments. We needed to host the Pacific Games which we are now going to host in the coming weeks,” said Prime Minister, O’Neill.
