by Shane Saroya – EM TV Sports, Port Moresby

The PNG shooting team has successfully to meet the minimum score to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

In order to get to the Commonwealth Games level and high standard competitions it takes a lot of commitment, sacrifice and a lot of training to be done and Rio 2016 is no exception.

However, the team is slowly building momentum and with potential medal contenders, in the likes Angus Donald, Darcy Leahy and veteran top shooter Danny Wanma, the team look strong. .

Tania Mairi, who started shooting just over a year ago, will also be a force to be reckoned with, having done extremely well in the Pacific Games winning gold and silver medals.

Her younger brother, Sibona Mairi, also did exceptionally well with his performance in the Oceania Continental Shooting Championships, given only 12 months of experience in the code.

With the future looking promising, the Olympics could be the stepping stone for PNG shooters to shine on the world stage.
