PNG’s first Home Grown Super Nut Now in Supermarkets

Available on shelves in selected supermarkets is a new and exclusive product released by the Galip Nut Company.

This is PNG’s first home-grown nut brand called the Galip Nut or also known as the super nut.

The official retail launching of the Galip Nut occurred at Stop and Shop Waigani Central on Wednesday, 25 July 2018.

Released by the Galip Nut Company, the forest tree nut kernels are grown, harvested, cracked, hand peeled, dried and packaged in East New Britain province.

“This is a proud moment for CPL and SNS to launch a homegrown product, I think it’s significant because one day this could be our large export item for PNG,”  said City Pharmacy Ltd Managing Director Mahesh Patel.

The project is a joint development between NARI, the University of the Sunshine Coast, the University of Adelaide and the Australian Center of International Agricultural Research. It started in 2104 To date over 970 farmers in East New Britain, both male and female have been recorded to be farming the galip nut.

“ Looking forward to working with CPL and we are excited that a local company wants to step forward and take a local product and commercialize it not only in PNG but to go abroad.”

On shelves, customers can now purchase 3 different varieties.

  • Natural, is lightly dried galip nut for all your cooking needs at home or in the restaurant,
  • Roasted is seasoned with salt and sugar and roasted to make an ideal snack,
  • and Peeled where the skin is removed and the dried.

These products are sold at Stop and Shop Waigani Central, Harbour City and also available for departing guests at Proud’s Store at Jackson’s International Airport.
