Politicians Criticism of Police Force Disappoints Police Union

By Staycey Yalo, EMTV News, Port Moresby

The Police union has expressed dissatisfaction over comments made by certain politicians on the Floor of Parliament who have been blaming the police for the law and order problems in the country.

President of Police Union, Lowa Tambua, said for politicians to rubbish the name of the entire police force is offensive as most of the problems caused are instigated by politicians themselves.

Tambua said the union accepts the fact that there are improvements that need to be made in the Police Force but continuous criticisms made against the entire force is uncalled for.

Tambua’s comments came after Two (2) Governors of the Highlands provinces called for the Australian Police intervention due to continuous Law and Order issues in their provinces.

Tambua said the continuous discrediting of the force over the years is unacceptable and called for.

General Secretary of the Police Union, Clemence Kanau expressed similar concerns stating that Police personnel are hardworking service men and women who dedicate their lives to their work, unlike politicians who come and go.

Tambua said if the politicians want to bring in police men and women from Australia, then they must also recruit politicians from Australia to run the country.
