Port Moresby General Hospital Labour Ward Receives 30 New Beds

By Lilian Sopera Keneqa – EMTV News, Port Moresby

Port Moresby General Hospital received 30 new beds for the labour ward today from Karim Bel Charity Organization.

According to Port Moresby General Hospital CEO, Dr. Umesh Gupta, the beds they are currently using are in a bad state and beyond repair.

The new beds will replace the old ones, giving mothers in the labour ward more comfort when they deliver their babies.

The Port Moresby General Hospital Labour Ward delivers 45 to 50 babies every day.

With this generous donation of 30 beds, which costs over K70,0000, mothers in labour can now deliver their babies comfortably.

The Karim Bel Charity Organization was more than happy to help raise money through their yearly fundraising event for this good cause.

CEO, Dr. Umesh Gupta, said there is a dire need for more health centres.

Port Moresby General Hospital is currently experiencing overcrowding at its labour ward. The new beds have already been placed in the labour ward for patients to use, however, due to patients’ privacy, the media was not allowed to film or take pictures inside.
