Port Moresby Daffodil Golf Event Raises over K100,000

Media Release

Heli Solutions are the 2015 Daffodil Cup Champions in the annual Port Moresby Daffodil Cup Golf Day held on Friday, 28 August.

With the excellent support of the business community, K103, 800.00 was raised on the night to support the work of the Cancer Foundation PNG.

“The Port Moresby Daffodil Cup Golf Day is sponsored by Oil Search every year since the event began in 2003 to raise funds for cancer control in PNG,” said Willie Kupo, Oil Search General Manager for Community & External Affairs.

“All proceeds raised from this event will go towards supporting the tremendous work of the Cancer Foundation in reducing the threat and impact of cancer in Papua New Guinea through successful education, prevention and clinical support – and, the contribution and participation of the Port Moresby and Lae business communities play a very significant part in the Foundation’s efforts in the fight against cancer in PNG. The Foundation’s main source of funding is through corporate sponsorship or donations so the very generous support will help minimise the impact of cancer on the many men, women and children affected by it.”

According to Dadi Toka Jr, CEO of the PNG Cancer Foundation, funds from the event will help teach the people of PNG how to protect their families from cancer, provide free cancer screening and workshops at various locations around the country, and work with partner organisations to improve cancer control across the country.

“The PNG Institute of Medical Research estimates that 1 in 10 deaths in PNG are cancer-related and August, Daffodil Month, is aimed at providing hope for a healthier nation by encouraging Papua New Guineans to challenge themselves to reduce their risk of cancer by making healthy lifestyle choices,” said Mr Toka.

“Eat a healthy diet, exercise regularly and protect your family. Don’t smoke, don’t chew and reduce your alcohol intake.”

Dadi Toka Jr expressed much appreciation to Oil Search and the business community for actively being involved in the work of Cancer Foundation PNG.
