Regional Workshop to Support Lae Women in Business Prep for APEC

By Lucy Kopana – EMTV News, Lae

Business women from West Sepik, East Sepik and Morobe provinces are meeting in Lae for the Momase Women’s Entrepreneurs Workshop and Expo. This is one of four meetings that are being held around the country in preparation towards the 2018 APEC meeting. The workshop is an opportunity to ensure women know what the APEC summit is about and how best they can participate.

Secretary for Community Development, Anna Solomon, said it was an opportunity for women to network, and understand their roles in the APEC meeting. The meeting will give Momase business women an opportunity to showcase their products and also learn from other women entrepreneurs.

Ms. Solomon said women need to assist and support each other with ideas and innovations in order to grow their businesses. Through these meetings, the government will also understand the business environment for women, and how to improve.

Ms. Solomon said there are a large number of local business women that need to be promoted. The department is working on creating a portfolio of Papua New Guinean business women to promote their businesses.

“We want to show the country and the rest of the world that, these are the women in business we have in Papua New Guinea, this is where they are in Papua New Guinea, these are the kinds of businesses they are in so we can utilize their businesses,” Ms. Solomon said.

The participants will be displaying their products at the CRC Church Hall at 2 Mile today.
