Retired Soldier’s Loss

By Theckla Gunga – EMTV News, Port Moresby

A retired PNG Defence Force soldier has sustained a broken nose and serious head injuries after he was attacked, during the rampage at Hohola Three.

Mark Kebean, now a trade store owner was assaulted on Saturday night when PNGDF soldiers retaliated and destroyed businesses and private properties.

The assault came following news of the passing of one of their colleague, who was involved in the car accident, near Kebean’s resident.

Kebean is now recovering elsewhere, as his entire home went up in flames.  Kebean had shown little emotions, as he recalled the events leading up to his assault.

As a former soldier, he was expecting a well-conducted approach, when a group of soldiers showed up at his residence after the car accident.

He did not think, he would be assaulted but realized he was helpless, when he was hit in the face with a can drink.

Kebean served in the PNGDF for 40 years and was retrenched in 2002. He bought a piece of land at Hohola, build a store and two three bedroom houses.

But all these were destroyed during the rampage on Saturday night.
