Sports Minister on Completion of Sir Hubert Murray Stadium

The K40m construction of the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium that has been stagnant for quite some time now, may see its completion at the end of this year, says Minister for Sports, Justin Tkatchenko.

He aims to get corporate houses involved to help assist financially, so that the construction can start once again, to get the project completed.

He said the corporate stadium will be put to good use, and be open to the public so corporate houses can also benefit from the private partnership and be an asset that people can enjoy and use for various events.

With the Rugby League World Cup to be staged this year, he is hoping the facility can be ready in time, but says, big sporting events can then be hosted in the stadium if not Rugby League World Cup.

Once the facility is completed, management will be sworn in to run the facility so that public and private beneficiaries can be given the opportunity to hire the facility. This includes rugby league, rugby union, football and other big events.

Can the good Minister for Sports tell the public why it wasnt completed in the first place? I believe when the costings of the stadium was done for the Pacific Games, I am sure all costs were considered and budgeted. So what Happened? A reputable company like Curtain Brothers would not have abandoned the construction of the stadium. Is it true that Curtain Brothers abandoned the Project because some politicians who were controlling the Pacific Games were asking for contracts or kickbacks from the company?
