by Michelle Amba – EM TV, Port Moresby

Telikom PNG has pledged to support the government in the rollout of the National Identification Project.

Telikom is partnering with Huawei and Datec to deliver this government initiative.

The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Michael Donnelly, in a statement, said the company will make use of existing partnership with the Department of Communication and Information.

“The project is of national significance and of high national security interest, therefore requiring a trusted partner for the government,” said Donnelly.

The National Planning Department will administer the project, through investments in the Integrated Government Information System (IGIS) project.

The CEO also announced that Telikom, Datec and Huawei are aiming to achieve phase one, and hope to complete outstanding works with similar arrangement.

He said as the only state-owned ICT and communications company, Telikom will aim for quality in the best interest of PNG citizens.

The NID project was launched by PNG’s Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, in Southern Highlands recently.
