The Lontis Soccer Association of Buka, in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, has paid tribute to one of the famous soccer heroes, late Joseph Maineke.

The late Maineke recently passed away in his home.

Lontis Soccer Association official, Gerard Nipon, while conveying his condolences to the late Maineke’s family described him as the ‘soccer hero for the Autonomous Region of Bougainville’.

Mr Nipon said that Maineke was one of Bougainville’s die-hard soccer fans, who loved soccer.

“He played soccer, he talked soccer and he lived as Bougainville’s ambassador for soccer,” said Nipon.

Nipon said that the late Maineke contributed well to the formation and development of soccer in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville. He sacrificed most of his time developing the soccer code to its standard.

One of his outstanding leadership memoir, was when he was involved in the discussion of the FIFA Academy School that will be built at Manetai in Central Bougainville.
