The Vabukori Amateur Volleyball Association will be sending five teams to the national volleyball championships in Lae starting this Friday.

Today we caught up with the open men’s team comprising current the national men’s team, the Amoas.

The team has been training under the guidance of the high performance coach, Boudii Meapo.

They will be vying for their 11th consecutive title, while the under-21 men’s will be in full force to retain their title.

Coach Tom Lui, who has been witnessing the undefeated moments since 2004, still remains confident of his charges.

Vice-captain Gia Kapa said he is looking forward to the Championships, and is hoping for strong rivalries.

The Vava team’s contingent of 65 players and officials will be converging to Lae this Thursday, a day before the Championships.

More than six volleyball associations from Port Moresby will be participating. Hosts, Huon, will have seven teams taking part. Kainantu and Madang will also be participating.
