Wasu Secondary School Suspended over Student Fight

The Wasu Secondary School in Morobe’s Tewae- Siassi district has been suspended.

This follows a fight that broke out amongst students on Monday night lasting till Tuesday morning.

Deputy Principal, Sobani Amjuye, said the fight started after a student contesting the SRC elections stepped down because insulting comments were written on his poster.

The SRC Election candidate’s supporters started a riot which resulted in four students being injured.

Bows and arrows, sticks and stones including knives were used in the brawl.

Damages were made to the school facilities, and three ancillary staff houses were burnt down.

Just yesterday morning some students set fire to one of the boy’s dormitory, however bystanders managed to put out the fire.

Mr. Amjuye said the teachers held a meeting and decided to suspend classes because of the tension. Students started moving out on Tuesday and more will be going home today.
