Water For 9 Mile Settlement

More than two thousand people living around 9 Mile settlement in Port Moresby now have access to running water.

Settlers around this area have been carrying water from distant water sources, however this will be a thing of the past.

The service is made possible through the Moresby North East administration’s water project in partnership with Eda Ranu.

More than ten thousand people in settlements within the electorate have benefited from similar water projects.

The project was commissioned yesterday by the member, Labi Amaiu, and Chief Executive officer of Eda Ranu, Henry Mokono .

The project took over 6 months to complete and a funding of K160,000 was made available through the district’s improvement service funds for this particular project.

The member also gave K20,000 for initial work, for securing land titles for the settlement.

He said for so long, Papua New Guineans have been suppressed and he is fighting to change this.

Consultations between the Working group and the Lands Department are progressing.
