Western Province Explorations

As Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill in recent new conferences, has highlighted the need to solve the ever increasing power problems in the country, the Department of Petroleum and Energy has embarked on addressing some of these problems.

Minister for Petroleum and Energy, Nixon Duban said his department wants to consolidate on that and look at physical gas fields available to explore in the Western Province.

 

Some of these gas condensate fields Elevala and Ketu gas, and condensate fields currently been explored by Horizon Oil Limited, the developer of Stanley Gas Condensate Project in Kiunga, Western Province.

 

Minister Duban said the 15 percent gas reserve under the Domestic Market Obligation will enable the government in time, to address the constant power outages in major urban centres of the country like Port Moresby and Lae.

 

Ok Tedi Mining Limited has shown keen interest while the local people have also shown interest to participate as well.
