Papua New Guinea’s Border Security Vital

Proper clearance and verification must always be considered before goods are brought into the country, says West Sepik Governor, Amkat Mai.

Governor Mai said if there is cheating along the border, then it means cheating Papua New Guinea’s National Security.

The West Sepik Governor said this after he commended a recent effort by Papua New Guinea Defence Force (PNGDF) soldiers who seized foreign goods on the road to Vanimo town.

Mai said economic activities in Vanimo will increase and plans are underway to boost PNGs border security.

This upgrade includes installation of power supply to all security agency residential buildings, and the upgrading of facilities that will be used by joint border security and customs agencies.

Meanwhile, the official opening of the Wutung Border Facility is delayed to a later date at the end of the year.
