Bomana Female Prisoners Celebrate International Women’s Day

Being behind bars did not limit the female prisoners at Bomana Correctional Services from celebrating International Women’s Day.

Superintendent Francesca Marenge stated that the female detainees, correctional officers, civilian officers and wife of staff members joined in to celebrate the day.

Prison gates did not stop the Bomana female detainees from celebrating the International event.

The day saw women correctional officers, civilian officers and wife of staff members joining in to press for progress.

Among the invited guests was Director General of National Library/Archives, Kaikaito Kasi from the National Library, who is in the process of writing a book, called ‘The strength of a woman’. He talked about the importance of women in society.

PNG AFL rolled out their ‘Niukick program’ and taught the female prisoners a bit of footy.

Their development has been in partnership with the PNG Correctional Services in their rehabilitation and reintegration initiatives through sports.
