Hela embarks on Road Project

The new Hela Province has embarked on a road projectowhich is expected to increase economic and social links with neighbouring Southern Highlands.

The road has been in existence for 23 years, but has not been fully developed.

The start ofthe valley road lies about two hours west of Tari station.

Hela Governor Anderson Agiru travelled by air to Magarima district. He was accompanlied by Works Minister Francis Awesa, Finance Minister James Marape and two of his Hela MP’s Philip Undialu and Francis Potape.

Mr Awesathen didthe official ground breaking ceremony to signifythe start ofthe project.

The forty kilometre road currently serves about fifteen thousand people.  Its development is expected to have a huge impact onthe local economy.

Hela’s Governor Anderson Agiru announced a ten million kina funding fromthe government to startthe project. Another thirty million will be provided asthe project progresses.

Local construction company IPWENZ Constructions has been tasked to implementthe project withinthe next two years.
