Importance of Independent Commission Against Corruption

Members of the Manus provincial government and its administration have learned the importance of establishing the Independent Commission Against Corruption or ICAC.

Director for Social Policy and Governance with the Department of Prime Minister and NEC, Christopher Asa, spoke to the Manus provincial staff during awareness on the roll out program on the District Development Authority.

Asa stressed the importance of having the ICAC as an independent body to curb corruption in the government sector.

The main purpose of the commission, he said, was to cooperate with other agencies to prevent, reduce and fight corrupt conduct.

He told the Manus administration staff that the establishment of ICAC was part of a broader strategy contained in the National Anti-corruption strategy 2010 – 2030, which was operationalised through the three year operational plans such as the National Anti-Corruption Plan of action 2012-2015.
