The Government of Japan announced four beneficiaries of its Grassroots Human Security Projects yesterday.

Among the three is the PNG Fire Service. Japan’s Ambassador to PNG, Satoshi Nakazima, said the program aims to have impact and help improve PNG communities.

Ambassador Nakazima said the Grant Assistance Program is to help alleviate issues faced by the different organisations. PNG Fire will be boosted with 6 new Fire Trucks. This will be a timely aid with APEC nearing before the end of this year.

The three schools will receive learning materials. For the three schools, the desks and chairs will help the overcrowded issues faced by many schools in the country.

Chief Fire Officer Bill Roo was present to witness the occasion.

He said the Fire Service is struggling, but is capable of responsibly serving the society.

Mr. Roo said the assistance is appreciated during this time when Government is slashing allocation to Government agencies.

Ambassador Nakazima urged the recipients to work within the project framework so further assistance can be sought.
